Rules
What the app does for you, and what you can change.
Players
5 players at least, 40 at most. A narrator gets no role and does not count towards either number.
The order of a game
- Roles are handed out. Everyone looks at theirs and taps Got it.
- Day 1. Say hello. No vote.
- Night. The mafia, the doctor and the detective make their choices.
- Morning. The room hears what happened.
- Last words, if someone went out and that setting is on.
- Talking, then the vote.
- The result, then night again.
How the night works out
Everything at night happens at the same moment. The doctor’s protection is applied first, then the mafia’s choice, then the detective’s check. If the doctor protected the person the mafia picked, that person is safe, and the morning simply says nobody was taken. The room is never told that a save happened.
Each mafia player picks a name and the most picked name wins. If they tie, one of the tied names is chosen at random. If nobody picks in time, the game picks for them, so a slow night never gives the town a free round.
A detective who chose before the night ended gets their answer, even if they were taken that same night.
Voting
Only players still in the game vote, and nobody can vote for themselves. You pick a name or you pick Nobody. The vote ends as soon as everyone has answered. The name with the most votes goes out.
If two names tie, either nobody goes out or the room votes again between them, depending on the setting. If the second vote ties too, nobody goes out.
Winning
The town wins when no mafia are left. The mafia win when there are as many mafia left as other players, because from then on they can win every vote. The app checks this after every player goes out.
Line-ups the app will not allow
Some choices of roles decide the game before it starts, so the app refuses to begin:
- No mafia at all, or no players outside the mafia.
- As many mafia as everyone else, which is already a mafia win.
- One short of that, with no vote on the first day, because the first night alone would end the game before anybody had a say.
The app also warns you, without stopping you, when the mafia are more than a third of the room. That game is playable, but hard for the town.

Settings you can change
The value in brackets is what you get if you change nothing.
- Time to talk (3 minutes): or pick your own, or turn the timer off. Either way the day ends early once everyone says they are done.
- Last words (on): a short moment to speak for whoever just went out.
- Mafia can pick their own (off): lets the mafia take one of their own to throw the room off. Best with twelve or more players.
- Vote on the first day (off): adds a vote to day one.
- Show who voted for whom (totals only): names, or just the numbers.
- If the vote is a tie (nobody goes out): or vote again between the tied names.
- Say the role of anyone who goes out (on): easier for a new group to follow.
- Doctor can protect themselves (on), and can pick the same person twice (off).
- Players who are out may keep talking (off): a house rule. Either way they can never vote or use a role.
