Mafia game roles

Each night you and the other mafia pick one person to remove. Do not let the rest work out who you are.

Each night you pick one person to protect. If the mafia pick the same person, that person is safe.

Each night you pick one person to check. Only you are told whether they are mafia.

You have no special power. Listen, work out who the mafia are, and vote them out.

In a room full of people, a phone that only lights up for some players gives the game away. So when the app runs the night, everyone answers a question on a screen that looks the same. A civilian’s answer changes nothing. It only shows up in the fun facts at the end.

Roles like a mafia boss, a bodyguard or a joker can be added later without changing how the game runs. They are left out on purpose. Four roles is easier to teach, and a group playing for the first time has enough to think about.
