Questions

Is Mafia the same game as Werewolf?

Yes. They are the same game with different names for the roles. In Werewolf the mafia are werewolves, the detective is a seer and the doctor is a healer. The rules here are the Mafia version, and everything works the same way.

How many mafia players should there be?

About one mafia player for every three or four people. With 5 or 6 players that is one. With 7 to 9 it is two. With 10 to 12 it is three, and so on. The app works this out for you, and you can change it if you want to.

Do we need someone to run the game?

No. The app does it. It tells you what happens next, collects the night choices and reads out the result. If someone would rather run it themselves, pick A narrator in the settings. They get the words to say and can see every role, and they do not play.

What is the smallest group that works?

5 players with roles. Fewer than that and the mafia win almost straight away. Games get better from about seven people up. A room holds up to 40.

Can we play this at a work event?

Yes, that is one of the things it was built for. Nobody is killed in the wording, they are simply out of the game. Names are checked, because they show up on everyone else’s screen. Above twenty people the app suggests two rooms, so a game does not drag on.

Someone’s phone ran out of battery. Have they lost their role?

No. The host can give them a short code from the host menu. They type it in on any other phone and get their place and their role back. The old phone stops working for that game.

What happens if someone loses signal mid-game?

A short drop changes nothing. If a player is still away after about ten seconds the game pauses on its own, and everyone sees who it is waiting for. It carries on with the right amount of time left as soon as they are back.

Can somebody cheat by looking at the page source?

There is nothing there to find. Everything is decided on our side, and each phone is only sent what that player is allowed to know: your own role, your own detective results, and the other mafia if you are mafia. Nothing else is stored in your browser.

Do I need an account?

No. You type a name, and that is all. Rooms do not last, and everything in them is deleted when they close.

Can we play over a video call?

You can, but it was not built for that. There is no chat in the app, because it assumes you can already see and hear each other.
